Our house was named in honour of St. Therese of Lisieux, the little flower. St. Therese grew up in France and became deathly ill at the age of 10. It was said that she prayed to a statue of the Virgin Mary, saw her smile and was instantly healed. She was known as the “little flower” because she promised those who prayed to her that she would answer with a shower of roses. She died of tuberculosis at an early age, always hiding her pain behind her smile.
