Policies @ our library

Students

Students may use the library when ever they are free for reading, research and study any time during the school day, individually, in small groups and in classes, however-

  • Lower school students will require a signed note from their teacher to use the library alone during class times.
  • Form 1 students have a weekly scheduled class and are required to bring their laptops to every session, unless told otherwise.
  • Forms 2 - 5 visit the Library as needed, on a flexible basis. Teachers should sign up classes in advance at the Circulation Desk or contact us to reserve computers or the TV area.
  • All Form 6s have a weekly scheduled study period, but may use the library when ever they are free.
  • All students are required to sign in the log book when entering the Independent Study Area.

Student loans

  • Form 1 - 3 students may borrow up to 2 items at a time.
  • Form 4 - 5 students may borrow up to 3 items at a time.
  • Form 6 students may borrow up to 4 items at a time.
  • All materials are to be checked out before they leave the library, including magazines which are to be signed out at the desk. A two-week checkout period is allowed for most books. A one week checkout period is allowed for Quick Read books (under 150 pages).
  • Special reserve items may be borrowed overnight but are due before 8.00 am the next day.
  • Fines are charged for overdue books - 0.50c per day for General and Quick Read items and $3.00 per day for Special Reserve items.
  • No student is permitted additional checkouts until overdue books are returned, and fines cleared. Replacement costs are charged for lost or damaged books, and parents or guardians will be contacted if students have overdue books or charges at the end of any term.
  • Items, including Special Reserve Collection items, may be renewed once unless requested. 

Parents/ guardians

After completing registration, parents or guardians of our users are allowed to borrow 1 item from the Family Support Collection for 1 week.  Fines will not be charged, but we do ask that materials be returned promptly.The library is committed to the concept of equitable access, not only to resources, but also to actual learning. As such, we are always available for consultation and collaboration with any parent or guardian to improve the learning outcomes of our users. Please contact us if you have any concerns at all.

Staff

Teachers are allowed to borrow 2 fiction items at a time for 2 weeks and up to 4 non fiction items, including those in the Professional Development Collection for 1 week. They may also check out reference material overnight. Non- teaching staff members are allowed to borrow 2 fiction items at a time for 2 weeks. Fines will not be charged, but we do ask that materials be returned promptly.
